In case you'd like to measure the area of a plot of land, you can do so using the area on map question on Collect. In this article, we will discuss:
- How to create an area question on Collect web
- How to answer an area question on Collect app
A. Creating an Area Question
An area question has multiple elements like question title, question keyword and description. To understand them better, we will take a sample choice question and create it on Collect.
Example: We want to create an area on map question asking people about the size of their farm/land in which they have cultivated crops. It will look like the image below.
To create this question on the Collect web dashboard, we will add the following details:
- Question Title: "How many square meters of land have you cultivated?"
- Mandatory Question: Yes (Check-marked)
- Question Keyword: "land_area"
- Choose Unit of Measurement: "Squared Meter". There are other units of measurement available like squared kilometer, squared foot, squared mile, hectare and acre. You can select any of these based on the requirement.
B. Answering an Area Question
When you open this question on the Collect app, it will look like the image below. To answer the question:
Step 1. Go to the area question and tap on it.
Step 2. Use either Place Markers, Draw on Map or move around to capture the area.
Place Markers: You can point the edges of the land on the map. The edges will be joined to compute the area
Draw on Map: You can draw the dimension of the land on the map and the area will be computed based on that.
Move around: As you walk around the circumference of the land, the area will be computed.
Step 3. If you have captured the area, click on "Submit" to submit the complete response.
Note:
In addition to note question, Collect supports 25+ other question types like image, location, signature, etc. You can read more about them in this detailed guide.
