Are you using Tableau for visualisation? Bring catalogs from Atlan to Tableau following these simple steps.
Requirements:
- Tableau
- Presto Driver installation
- Atlan Access Token
Follow the next steps if you already have access to Tableau on your system. If not, you can choose to download the latest version from the tableau website.
Step 1: Installing Presto Driver [Ensure your Tableau desktop application is closed during this step]
In order to connect to Atlan Catalog, you would have to install the presto driver. To download the presto driver, visit Tableau Driver page.

Install “Simba Presto 1.1.pkg” package
Step 2. Generate an Access Token from Atlan
- Go to Atlan and click on the Governance tab on the left
- Under the Admin Hub, click on Access Tokens
- Click on Generate New Token and a window will open where the tool needs to be chosen. Choose Tableau as the tool.
- On the next screen, fill up the Application Name and attach relevant access policies for the user. Click on Generate to move ahead.
4. On the next screen, a token will be generated. Please copy this access token and save it on your system/share it with the relevant user (as required) as you would not be able to see it on Atlan again for security purposes.
Step 3: Configure Presto Driver
Follow the below-mentioned steps to configure the driver
- Open the Tableau desktop application
- Click on “More” to access the list of all the servers connectors
- Search for Presto and click on it
- Fill up the configuration as below:
- Server: <instance>-api.atlan.com
- Port: 443
- Catalog: hive
- Schema: default
- Authentication: username
- Username: <Access token from Atlan> (Steps to generate this are provided above)
- Require SSL: Check the box
- Click Sign-in
- Once configured, the information would be saved for future access. All you have to do next time you would open Tableau would be to click on Presto on the right and then sign in.
Step 4: Access Atlan Catalog on Tableau
Once connected, you would be taken to screen like displayed below
- Click on the schema > click on the search icon > select default
- Search for the table name in the table box & click on search
- Select the table by double-clicking on it
- Choose to live query or extract the data from the Atlan catalog
