You can repeat questions on Collect using the group question type. There are four types of group questions: no repeat, choice, number, and custom.

Sometimes, you might want to group some questions together in a form. You might have a table type question on paper and you want to make it on Collect, or you want to ask a set of questions multiple times in every survey — based on some conditions.

Ex: Asking medical details of every household member — based on the number of people in a household.

Group questions help you do this. In this article, we will discuss how you can create them.

Group Questions Based on Repeat Conditions

  1. Group that doesn't repeat: Allows you to create a group of questions that gets shown once and is not repeated. For example, if in a health survey, you want to record different health data based on the gender of the respondent, you can use this question type.
  2. Group repeats based on number: Create a group of questions that gets repeated based on the response to a numerical question in your form. For example, if in a household survey, you want to record the basic information like name, age, and date of birth of each member of the household, you can create a group question that gets repeated based on the total number of household members.
  3. Group repeats based on choice: Create a group of questions that gets repeated based on the response to a choice question in your form. For example, in a farmer survey, you want to record the basic information like how much crop was grown, season etc of each crop that the farmer grows, you can create a group question that gets repeated based on the crops that farmer selects in the previous "Multiple Choice" question.
  4. Group based on custom condition: Create a group of questions that gets repeated based on the labels that you select to a choice question in your form. The group can be repeated for every selected label. For example, you may need to repeat a set of questions to a child's mother and then to the child's father. For this, a group of questions can then be repeated over custom columns, “Mother” and “Father”.

Parts of Group Questions:

  1. Repeat group condition: This is the question based on which the group of child questions gets repeated.
  2. Child questions: These are the questions that get repeated if the repeat group condition is matched. You can create any number of child questions.
